Alex and Anna PJs from Peek-A-Boo Patterns

My first sew using Alex and Anna PJs from Peek-a-Boo Patterns.

They look a little slim fitting for my Little Miss but we'll see how she likes them. The neckband was much thinner than I used to which was a bit fiddly. I think I'll increase the width next time I sew these up. The cuffs look too chunky to me it's intended to be a grow with me option I'm not sure I'm liking it bug we'll see what Little Miss makes of it.

Overall a quick and easy sew that I'll definitely be making again.

Dolls Tartan Dress

Pattern McCalls M4338

Size Medium

Fabric Wool mix tartan

I couldn't be bothered lining the dress so I skipped the lining completely and finished the edges with an overlocker.  Then I folded the over locked hems and top stitched them in place.

I've no narrow velcro so it's another snap fastener for the back.

Insulated Lunch Bag - Unicorns

Made from an old insulated shopping bag.

Pieces cut to measure 31 x 8 inches and two pieces 6 x 10 inches.  Sewn together wrong sides together then edges are bound with home made binding.

Binding is cut to 2.5 inch wide.

Book Bag

A quick little sewing project for a last minute child's birthday gift.

I started by cutting two pieces of fabric measuring big enough to comfortably contain a large children's book.  I figured this would give enough leigh way to accommodate as few books as well as the larger or more unusual sizes.

I could have used one continuous length if the design hadn't been directional.

I stitched the two pieces together along the sides and bottom edges, finishing the raw edges with my overlocker.

I also finished the top edges with my overlocker too.

Then I pressed the top edges down by about 2 inches and stitched the hem in place with a double needle because I like the neat finish it gives.

I made a pair of straps using strips of fabric 3 inches wide, long enough to make comfortable straps.

I stitched the strips lengthways right sides together and then turned them the right way out using a loop turner.  This turned out to be hugely laborious, I have no idea why, the thick fabric just didn't want to turn!  I'd have given up and started again if this wasn't the only co-ordinating fabric I had in my stash.  It's definitely time for some fabric shopping but at the same time my stash is far too big . . . First World problem.

Anyways, I turned the short end of the strap in under itself and stitched it in place making a square of stitches then stitching diagonally across said square to secure the strap well.  I top stitched the edge of the strap and stitched the same pattern on the other end before top stitching along the other side.

Aside from the problems turning the loops this was a quick and easy project.  I made a little batch of 3 of them because that's how much of this alphabet fabric I had to hand and I thought it was better to use it up while my kids are little and last minute gifts for little kids are sure to be needed again.

Another Pair of Comfy Cosy Slippers

Another pair of Comfy Cosy Slippers sewn up just like my last pair - https://simply-crafting.blogspot.com/2019/12/how-to-sew-comfy-cozy-slippers-step-by.html.  But this time I've used some fake fur I bought to make teddy bears that my kids would never appreciate.  The denim is cut from an old pair of jeans that was destined to become a romper but some drastic mistake designated it to the rag bag.

My last pair wore through the soles so this time I've used two layers of tough waterproof fabric for the soles.  Hopefully this pair will last a little longer.

Kids Navy Polo Shirt - Sewing Pattern Review Peek-a-Boo Declan Pullover

I'm just a little bit in love with the Declan Pullover pattern from Peek-a-Boo Patterns.  It's such a cute little stash buster.

I've been struggling to find a pattern for a simple kids top that would suit both my Little Miss and Little Dude. Most importantly I wanted a pattern could be made using some of my stash of cheaper fabrics.  A lot of my stretch fabric stash doesn't have enough stretch to make a cute raglan like the Mega Max by Max and Meena.  Those that do stretch seem to have terrible recovery so they end up over stretched and looking scruffy very quickly.

The placket on this polo style short if the perfect solution.  It's really easy to make (I promise, I know it looks complicated but it really isn't).  And it looks so freaking adorable!!

The Declan pullover pattern comes with long and short sleeved options as well as a collar, Henley neckband or a hood so this is going to be a great all year round pattern.

I do love me a little bit of contrast particularly on kids clothes and even more so when I'm stash busting.  The Declan pullover has been an awesome pattern for creating some really striking contrast designs and really making the most of my scrap stash.

With sizes form newborn to 12 years the pattern will cover both my kids for many years to come so it's fantastic value.

This is turning into a sales pitch which I really didn't intend, I'm just genuinely loving this pattern at the moment!!
