Max and Meena's Mega Max Raglan Top Sewing Project - Wild West

With a bright and colourful print and contrasting plain sleeves these raglan shirts really stand out from the crowd. Children love the striking prints whilst parents love how comfortable and easy care they are.

This top is availible to buy through my NuMonday shop.

If you're interested in how it's made and how you can make your very own raglan top (it's really easy I promise!) scroll on down to find out how.

You'll need the following supplies:

Plus some lovely cotton Lycra stretch fabric.

I earn a small commission when products are purchased through the links I post here (at no additional cost to you).

Basic Construction

Raglan patters tend to start with the front and back sleeve seams.  The top starts to take shape immediately which is really satisfying.

The side and sleeve seams are sewn in one continuous seam.  I love this technique, it always makes for such a nice neat finish.

Neckband

I stitch the neckband with a straight stitch as it allows the neckband to lie fatter than it would with a stretch stitch which is quite a wide stitch.

I also press the seam open so it lies as flat as possible.

When turning my neckband I find a tailors ham very useful for accurate pressing.

I carefully pin the neckband into place making sure it fits evenly around the neck edge.

For the final step I finish the hems and stitch them in place with a twin needle for a really professional finish.

Colouring the Digital Stamp

The digi image is from Polkadoodles, part of their Waddy & Wanda Penguin range. It's printed onto Winsor & Newton Bleedproof Paper and coloured with Winsor & Newton Promarkers and Flexmarkers. The colours I used are as follows:

Penguins

Features

Wood and Foliage

After colouring I use a glue stick to stick the Winsor & Newton Bleedproof Paper onto some plain white card as the Winsor & Newton Bleedproof Paper is very thin.

Layering

Christmas Cardmaking Tutorial Polkadoodles Waddy Wanda Penguin

I base my card designs around the main image so that I'm keeping this as the focal point. I start by measuring the choosing how big I want the main image to be and cutting it out. Then I cut a mat from plain paper or card that measures 3mm bigger than my main digi image.

I like to ink the edges of my image with distress ink pads.

Next I choose what size and shape I'd like my next layer. I cut this out of designer paper and also cut another mat 3mm bigger.

On these cards I've also cut mats for the greetings. They're too small to measure 3mm bigger so I've just cut the mats by eye.

I start by gathering all of my colour co-ordinated embellishments and choosing which ones I'd like to use. This sparkly silver adheisve tape was perfect for a little touch of wintery sparkle. I stuck it along the side of my largest layer.

Assembling the Layers

I ink the edges of my cards with distress ink pads.

Each layer is stuck in place with 3D foam pads to give it some dimension.

Embellishments

These little bows add a lovely feminie touch. I've stuck them in place after assembling the rest of the layers.

Cards just don't look finished to me without a few gems in the corner!! I always use craft tweezers to position them perfectly.

I also decorate the inside of my cards with matching papers and embellishments.
